Bridging Generations: Honoring Our Past, Shaping Our Future Join us for dinner and a conversation.  Wednesday, April 2nd. Dinner 5:30pm, Discussion 7pm.  Free Dinner &amp; Childcare provided.  We invite you to a Community Conversation on Wednesday, April 2nd to talk about how we can BOTH honor the history of Whitcomb High School and design the spaces in our White River Valley Middle School to celebrate the accomplishments and work of our students today. Interested? See our poster attached and read more about the work that is being done and the work we hope to do together below. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future: A Community CollaborationThe upcoming Community Conversation on April 2 is an opportunity to strengthen our connections—between past and present, between students and community members, and between tradition and progress. We recognize that the process of evolving our school’s identity must be deeply rooted in respect for Whitcomb Junior/Senior High School’s history while creating an inviting, student-centered space that reflects the values of White River Valley Middle School (WRVMS).<h3 dir="ltr">Student Leadership and Vision</h3>Students are at the heart of this evolution. Their leadership, particularly through the Culture and Climate Committee, is guiding efforts to make WRVMS a welcoming, engaging, and inspiring place to learn. Key student-led initiatives include:<ul><li dir="ltr">Reflecting Student Ownership: Student art is being integrated throughout the hallways, and Makerspace projects are adding personalized signage that enhances school identity.</li><li dir="ltr">Developing the Wildcat Brand: Students are working to create a middle school atmosphere that fosters belonging and pride.</li><li dir="ltr">Aesthetic Enhancements: Updates to common spaces align with WRVMS’s overall theme and vision, making the environment both functional and inspiring.</li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">Honoring Whitcomb’s Legacy</h3>Students in the Flexible Pathways class are actively researching and documenting the stories behind the trophies, banners, and other artifacts from Whitcomb Junior/Senior High School. This work is foundational to ensuring that our school’s history remains alive and accessible. Their efforts include:<ul><li dir="ltr">Gathering Community Stories: Connecting with alumni and residents to collect personal narratives associated with Whitcomb’s legacy.</li><li dir="ltr">Developing Interpretative Projects:<ul><li dir="ltr">Creating signage with historical context for artifacts.</li><li dir="ltr">Using QR codes to provide digital access to stories and historical information.</li><li dir="ltr">Producing a podcast segment (for the Wildcat Wakeup) to highlight key moments and perspectives from Whitcomb’s past.</li><li dir="ltr">Showcasing art that celebrates the shared values of Whitcomb and WRVMS.</li></ul></li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">Community Engagement and Partnership</h3>A successful and meaningful transformation of WRVMS depends on ongoing collaboration with the community. We invite community members to join us in this work by:<ul><li dir="ltr">Assisting with Story Collection: Sharing memories and helping students document Whitcomb’s rich history.</li><li dir="ltr">Partnering with Student Researchers: Volunteering time to work alongside students as they organize and interpret historical materials.</li><li dir="ltr">Joining the Conversation: Attending Community Conversations to help shape the school’s future in a way that honors its past.</li><li dir="ltr">Strengthening Connections: Collaborating with local stakeholders, including:<ul><li dir="ltr">The Bethel Historical Society</li><li dir="ltr">Community voices</li><li dir="ltr">WRVMS administration and staff</li><li dir="ltr">White River Valley Supervisory Union leadership</li></ul></li></ul><h3 dir="ltr">A Transparent and Collaborative Process</h3>The ongoing development of WRVMS will be guided by the values of the community.
