The Opportunity: The White River Valley Schools is seeking an energetic and inspiring instructional leader who will work collaboratively to ensure an outstanding educational experience for all students. White River Unified District comprises two elementary schools (South Royalton Elementary and Bethel Elementary), a unified middle school (WRVMS-Bethel), and a unified high school (WRVHS-Royalton). The two campuses are about 8 miles apart and together enroll approximately 650 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The White River Unified District (WRUD) is located in the beautiful and picturesque White River Valley of Vermont and is a member district of the White River Valley Supervisory Union (https://wrvsu.org). Under the leadership of a team of four principals (two elementary, middle, and high school), WRUD is committed to a comprehensive, coherent, and consistent PK-12 approach that focuses on outdoor and experiential learning, as well as proficiency-based learning, personalized learning and flexible pathways for all students. The Role: The South Royalton Elementary Principal serves as the educational leader of the elementary school on the Royalton campus and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the implementation of all school activities, including safety, climate, curriculum, instruction, student support, and finance. In addition, the Principal will ensure that a comprehensive system of supports (MTSS) across academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning is implemented with fidelity. This position requires a commitment to racial equity, as well as other forms of education equity around class, ability, language, gender, and sexuality. The Principal acts with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner and works collaboratively to inspire a commitment to high-quality universal instruction and targeted/intensive academic and social-emotional supports to ensure all students reach their greatest potential. They will be charged with leading staff to utilize a data-driven cycle of continuous improvement, establish and maintain a commitment to parent/guardian and community partnerships, and promote fairness and equity for all students. Essential Job Functions: ● Serve as instructional leader and model for the district; ● Maintain a strong, safe, and supportive school climate that is conducive to growth and learning; ● Implement and monitor progress on the school’s continuous improvement plan, make decisions with consideration for system priorities and initiatives, and articulate progress and the well-being of the school and students to the school community.
● Promote the success of every student by advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and belongingness, as well as staff professional growth; ● Foster a distributive leadership model; ● Prepare, in coordination with the WRVSU Business Manager and WRUD principals, the school budget and supervise school finances; ● Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration; ● Assume responsibility for the implementation and observance of all board policies and regulations by the school’s staff and students; ● Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline through positive behavior interventions and supports and progressive discipline; ● Supervise all professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and non-professional personnel attached to the school for the purpose of improving teaching, learning, and student achievement; Your Skill Set: As the incoming South Royalton Elementary Principal, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following skills and experiences: ● Licensed or eligibility as a Vermont Principal PreK-12 ● Strong communication, computer, and interpersonal skills. ● Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. ● Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. ● Ability to speak clearly and concisely, both in oral and written communication. ● Must be able to keep high levels of confidentiality in all aspects of job performance. ● Ability to develop and write routine and complex reports and correspondence.
